Around 150 kg of rubbish was removed from the lake and its surroundings. Non-native species of invasive molluscs, most notably zebra mussels, were also removed.

A number of vistors to the region from other countries also helped with the clean-up operation.

Samo Frantar of the Bled Society for Underwater Activities said that the people of Slovenia were becoming more aware of the importance of good waste management every year.

Primary school children also took part in the clean-up and participated in workshops beforehand, learning about the importance of caring for the environment and understanding ecosystems.
