The Farmers' Union of Slovenia organized a protest rally in central Ljubljana and several other locations across the country against environmental rules that they say are destroying farming. A long line of tractors drove past the National Assembly and Government buildings. The head of the Union of Farmers, Anton Medved, said the country's stability depends on farmers, but that their demands are never taken seriously. He said farmers also refuse their fate to be decided by environmentalists and state officials. Anja Mager from the Young Farmers Association says state measures prevent the development of farms and basic farm activities. Farmers also demand the revision and reduction of Natura 2000 protected areas.
