He is the second Slovenian cyclist to do so after Primož Rogljič took the Giro last year. Pogačar marked this year's last stage with the highest lead of 10 minutes since 1965, but said that in the end it seems that if the lead is high that it was achieved easily but it was most certainly not easy, that 21 days of the Giro demand a lot of focus. This is Pogačar's 77th win (including stage wins) in his career.
