The police is conducting searches at the premises of the DARS national motorway company as well as 23 house searches. Six people are suspected of abuse of office and bribery. Among the raided homes are those of former DARS chairman Valentin Hajdinjak and tax adviser Rok Snežič. The police operation comes six months after a media report about alleged corruption at the DARS motorway company, which then led to Hajdinjak's resignation.
Commenting on the situation, Infrastructure Minister Alenka Bratušek said there was no room for mafia dealings in Slovenia and called on crime investigators to do their job.
The National Bureau of Investigation is also investigating other persons related to DARS's truck towing business deals.
