RTV Slovenia called on the culture ministry to withdraw its proposed changes to the media act. The proposals would divert funding for RTV to other places, including the Slovenian Press Agency and other media.
The head of RTV said the proposals would mean that Slovenia’s national broadcaster would lose nearly 8 million a year together with another 10 million from its transmitting business.
The public broadcaster is already 8 million in the red this year. A union representative said the proposed changes could lead to the loss of nearly a quarter of RTV’s staff.
The Culture Ministry said changes would be made.
