The young will call for a green national budget, the reduction of carbon emissions in traffic, shifts in the agriculture policy, and the closure of the Šoštanj coal-fired plant and Velenje coal mine by 2030.

The protests in Ljubljana, Maribor, Koper, Novo Mesto, Ravne na Koroškem, Ormož, Slovenske Konjice and Kamnik are part of a global-wide climate campaign headed by the Swedish teen activist Greta Thunberg.

Schools said they would excuse the absence of student protesters from class.
