The Slovenian army has sent reinforcements to the country's southern border, upon a request by the police force, according to Defence Minister Karl Erjavec.

He was speaking at a ceremony in Topolščica to commemorate the end of World War II.

The police and army have increased their presence at the border, in response to increasing levels of migrant activity in the region.

Austria has also increased border checks on its shared border with Slovenia in the last 6 months, resturning 15 migrants to Slovenia in the first four months of this year.
