The annual Stara Trta, or Old Vine, Festival which started in Maribor on Friday reached its peak this morning with the 32nd Grape Harvest at the Old Vine itself in Maribor.

The vine was cut at 11 a.m. in front of the Old Vine House in Lent, beside the river Drava.

The plant is more than 400 years old and has been entered into the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest grape-producing vine in the world.

It usually yields between 33 and 55 kg of grapes, depending on the weather conditions during the summer. That's enough to fill 100 quarter-litre bottles of wine, from two grape sorts, "žametkova" and "modra kavčina", some of the first known varieties in Slovenia.
