A ceremony in Metlika, in the south of Slovenia, will mark today 150 years of organized firefighting in Slovenia, with Prime Minister Marjan Šarec addressing the crowd at the main ceremony. They will also commemorate the 70th anniversary of the main Slovenian firefighter organization and the 50th anniversary of the firefighter museum in Metlika. Slovenian firefighters mark the 19th of September-the date when the first-ever firefighting association was formed in Slovenia in 1869, as the overall beginning of Slovenian firefighting. Today over 162.000 volunteer and 700 professional firefighters are a part of the main Slovenian firefighter organization Gasilska zveza Slovenije.
