Tomorrow is International Roma day, that Slovenia already noted with a ceremony yesterday, while also officially opening a new multi-purpose community center as part of efforts to make-over Žabjek-Brezje, the largest illegal Roma village near the city of Novo Mesto. Prime Minister Marjan Šarec who attended the ceremony, has urged nations to live in coexistence and respect each other while preserving their identity, while the president of the Roma Association of Slovenia, Jožek Horvat Muc, noted the Roma community were still being discriminated against, with hate speech, racism, and segregation. The Slovenian Roma community numbers between 7,000 and 12,000 members, most of whom live in the region of Prekmurje, north-east, and Dolenjska and Bela Krajina, south-east. The International Roma Day is observed on the 8th of April and was declared in 1990.
