He added that he hoped that they would keep the precious curiosity that children have for as long as possible. He said that it was the basis for the joy of acquiring knowledge, not just in school but throughout their whole lives.
Just over 194,000 children will attend primary school this year, while 82,000 will attend secondary school.
A 'Safely to School' campaign will run until the 8th of September, highlighting the importance of road safety. It's also an annual campaign to raise awareness among drivers that they must always pay attention near schools and zebra crossings.
