While some members of parliament like state secretary Tadej Osterc praised the change saying that abolition of the unfair supplementary health insurance is the first step towards a fairer and more solidary system, others like NSi member Jože Horvat commented that populist measures are being taken and that he believes that populism will not contribute to a healthier society. The reformed system will take effect on 1st January 2024, but in the meantime the supplementary health insurance premium has been frozen at just over 35€ per month.
