A large-scale rescue effort is underway near Cerknica in southwest Slovenia. A group of 6 speleologists was exploring a new cave near the village Dolenja vas pri Cerknici. One was badly injured by falling rock at a depth of about 100 metres below ground.
The explorer is unconscious but responsive, a physician is with her and monitoring her condition.
Rescue teams are preparing the rescue path, namely the chasm has many narrow parts. It will be necessary to blast out some stone and miners are preparing to widen the cavity in order to make way for the transport of the injured explorer.
65 rescuers are on site and a team of 20 is in the cave.
