The 320-kilo statue, which doubles as a weather vane, was lowered for renovation purposes. This February, a strong bora gust ripped off a portion of its wing. The archangel last touched ground 110 years ago, but the statue has braved the strong coastal winds for far longer. It was first installed amost two and a half centuries ago, in 1769, a year before James Cook discovered Australia.
