Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogačar, who is also the World No.1 according to the UCI rankings, has been named the 6th best athlete of 2021, according to a survey of twenty-six European news agencies.
The survey is run by the Polish news agency PAP every year.
Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic, who won three of the four grand slams in 2021, was voted the year's best athlete for the 4th time.
Pogačar continued his excellent season on two wheels by winning today's Cyclocross Cup in muddy conditions in Stožice, Ljubljana.
He finished ahead of Luka Mezgec in 2nd and Matevž Govekar in 3rd after 8 laps of a 2.3 km circuit.
