From the parliament house in the city centre the rally then moved to the northern ring road blocking traffic. The road was closed for a while, as the police tried to break up the crowd, by using a water canon and tear gas.
The protesters demanded an end to Covid restrictions and an immediate resignation by those in power and called for early elections.
Addressing the crowd in front of the parliament was also the father of the 20-year old girl who died within a fortnight after receiving a shot of the Jannssen vaccine. The crowd also observed a minute of silence after his daughter’s death.
