Today is Culture or Prešeren Day in Slovenia. It's a work-free bank holiday, when many museums and galleries open their doors for free of charge events. The day marks the anniversary of the death of Slovene poet France Prešeren and is a celebration of Slovenian culture.
The national prizes for lifetime achievement in culture and arts were presented last night on the eve of Culture Day at a ceremony in Ljubljana. This year's recipients were interdisciplinary artist Ema Kugler and painter Herman Gvardjančič.
