A new award will be introduced on World Bee Day today. It comes as Slovenia marks this special UN day dedicated to honey bees and other pollinators.
The Golden Bee Prize will be presented by the Agriculture Ministry. A number of other events will take place around the country.
Slovenia is home to more than 500 species of wild bees. It is best known for its Carniolan honey bee.
Meanwhile, honey self-sufficiency dropped by 44% over 2018, mostly due to bad weather.
The World Bee Day was initiated by Slovenia. The UN approved its proposal in 2017.
