PM Robert Golob has called on the Natural Resources and Spatial Planning Minister Uroš Brežan to suspend the decision to allow the cull of 230 bears in Slovenia. He said the issue should be revisited. The figure is the highest to date.
The statement comes after protests by NGO’s who claim the decision to cull 230 bears was in breach of Slovenian and European legislation. It’s estimated that some 1100 brown bears live in Slovenia. Proponents of the cull say their population should be reduced because of the agricultural damage the animals cause.
