More than 1.7 million Slovenian voters who are eligible to vote, can cast their votes in local elections today. 688 candidates are running for 212 mayoral offices, while as many as 36 mayoral candidates are standing uncontested and in 60 municipalities have two candidates.

Voters can cast their ballots at one of around 3,200 polling stations across the country between 7 AM and 7 PM. Some voters have already cast their vote early in the previous days.

Voters in municipalities with Italian and Hungarian ethnic minorities and Roma will also be able to vote for representatives of their communities in local councils. The first results are expected soon after the polls close.
