The border city of Nova Gorica is hosting the 20th World Lace Congress.
Some 800 participants are expected at the event.
It will end with an awards ceremony honouring the best lace makers.
The event takes place every two years. The event gets under way with lace making workshops today. The official opening is tomorrow.
