At a conference hosted by the Andrej Marušič Institute, which closes in Piran, experts agreed that preventive programs and more public awareness had helped bring the suicide rate down.

In Slovenia, the number of suicides fell to between 400 and 450 a year, after once being as high as 600. The differences in regions has also fallen, although there were slightly more in the eastern region of Styria than in the coastal areas.
