Today we celebrate Earth Day which purpose is to raise awareness on all things which threaten the survival of our planet. This year’s theme is “Invest in our Planet”. It marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970. It mobilises 1 billion individuals for action each year.

and statistics show that Slovenians produced 518 kg per person communal waste in 2021, which is 47 percent more than 2012, but one positive part is that the share of waste separation has risen from 46 to 74 percent in the same period.

According to statistics Slovenia is responsible for 16,1 million tons emissions of CO2 equivalent which is 9 percent less than 2012 and counts for 6 tons per person. We are just below the European average here, with best results in Malta and Sweden.

Among the more encouraging data concerning pollution is the fact, that the number of new electric and hybrid cars in Slovenia is increasing. While back in 2017 almost 300 new electric cars were registered, this number is higher than 1,700 in 2021. In the same period the number of newly registered hybrid cars increased by factor 7.
