The 24th of May is dedicated to protective areas in Europe and called European Day of Darks. It remembers the opening of the first 9 European national parks in Sweden back in 1909. We celebrate this day since 1999.
This year’s motto is Parks for Health – which is quite appropriate under the current circumstances.
The main protective area in Slovenia – the Triglav national park – was planning many activities in the years before and they have adopted to the coronavirus situation with virtual tours and presentations.
Protected areas have an ever growing mission to connect people with nature which is even more important in a more urbanised and fast-paced life.
13 percent of the area of Slovenia is covered by protected areas.
