The Slovenian environment agency says the heat will be the worst in western and central parts of the country and perhaps even break some June temperature records. That said, Slovenia can look forward to a cold front in the late afternoon, which will bring a drop in temperatures. The scales are not expected to exceed 30°C in central Slovenia on Friday and Saturday. Sunday will again bring an increase in temperatures, which is expected to persist until at least Wednesday.

According to meteorologists, the European heatwave was caused by the exceptionally hot air blown in from northern Africa.

Some nations, including Switzerland and France, are expected to see scales rise to above 40°C today. Nearly all of France is on orange alert. In 2003, a heatwave in France led to thousands of deaths.
