The volunteers planted indigenous saplings, which adapt better to local conditions. An estimated 11,000 trees will have been planted by the end of this year, according to one of the organisers. It's all part of the 'Action for Nature' campaign.
One third of the trees destroyed by the fires will eventually be restored. The remaining woods and forests will renew themselves naturally.
