In Slovenia we celebrate today the Independence and Unity day in memory of the 1990 independence referendum, in which almost 90 percent of eligible Slovenian voters decided that Slovenia should leave Yugoslavia.
The referendum was held on the 23rd of December and on this day 29 years ago the National Assembly declared the outcome.
The then president dr. France Bučar stated that the Slovenian nation has decided that Slovenia is to become a sovereign and independent state.
By this the National assembly was triggering a milestone year that included the declaration of independence in June 1991 and a ten-day war.
President Borut Pahor addressed visitors at the Presidential Palace.
