The festivities traditionally start with the Kurent's Jump, when people dressed in the Kurent carnival costume gather around a bonfire, jumping around it and ringing bells to symbolically chase away the winter and evil.
However, Slovenia's largest carnival will this year again be held in a mostly virtual form. The Director of the Ptuj Tourist Board Tanja Srečkovič Bolšec however added that they will kick off a competition for the best carnival doughnut today. The winner will be announced on February 17.
This year's events will also include carnival tours in Ptuj, an exhibition of ethnographic carnival characters and masks, carnival workshops, and a competition for the most beautiful carnival decoration.
