The Stara trta or Old Vine festival got underway today with the 32nd grape harvest of the Old Vine in Maribor. Slovenian Minister of Agriculture Aleksandra Pivec had the honors of cutting the first vine. The harvest attracted a lot of viewers from home and abroad. Representatives of North and South Korea were also present at the harvest, honoring the sprout of the old vine that they have received last year and planted in Seoul and Pyongyang as a symbol of peace. The plant is over 400 years old and is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest grape-producing vine in the world. The festival of the old Vine will run until the 12th November.
