The move comes after the UN General Assembly declared 20 May World Bee Day at Slovenia's initiative.

The announcement was made by Agriculture Minister Dejan Židan upon ending his visit to New York.

Currently, the US is only allowed to import bees from Canada, Australia and New Zealand, but the minister hopes that the beehive with the Slovenian traditional front decoration will house Slovenian bees.
