The main purpose of the international World Bee day is to raise awareness of the global public about the importance of bees and other pollinators for humankind.

In the last ten years, the number of beekeepers in Slovenia increased by 30% to well over 10,000. Their number in the EU is meanwhile decreasing. Worldwide, there are around 20,000 sub-species of bees. The Carniolan honey bee, originating from Slovenia, is the second most widespread sub-species in the world.
