Workers have started removing the wire fence along the border with Croatia. After several delays, the company contracted by the Interior Ministry to do the job started removing the fence today.
Slovenia's defence and interior ministers said it was a great day for those living in the area. Interior Minister Boštjan Poklukar said that after eight years the Kolpa border river was now being returned to the locals and tourists.
Slovenia put up hundreds of kilometres of wire fence on its southern border after the migrant crisis in 2015. All the border fences are expected to be fully removed within two years.
