In 1839 tea from India first arrives in the United Kingdom. It quickly became the English national drink.

In 1883 Russian writer Aleksej Nikolajevic Tolstoj is born. He is known for his novels Prince Serebrenny, the drama Ivan the Terrible, the trilogy entitled The Road to Calvary and the biographic novel of Peter the Great.

In 1898 Sergej Mihajlovic Eisenstein is born. He became a pioneering Soviet Russian film director and film theorist.

In 1925 he made the film Battleship Potemkin, which due to the consistent application of the principle of mounting left a decisive impact the viewer’™s perception of the film.

In 1917 Legend of the Wild West, William Frederic Cody dies. Better known as Buffalo Bill he was a Pony Express rider, and a guide and tracker in the US army.

In 1971 Gabrielle Chanel Coco or Coco Chanel, the French fashion designer dies. She became famous for her creation of the little black dress and numerous innovations. She introduced bow, gilt buttons, handbags with chain straps and the perfume Chanel No. 5. Her costume is a symbol of traditional elegance.

1958 - Jerry L. Lewis is at No. 1 on the British charts with 'Great Balls Of Fire'.

1981 - John Lennon is No. 1 on the British singles chart with 'Imagine', 10 years after it was recorded. On this day Lennon is also among the top 5 with 'Happy Christmas', (War Is Over') and '(Just Like) Starting Over'.

2008 - Radiohead topp the US album charts with the physical release of 'In Rainbows', originally sold via the internet for a price chosen by fans.

2016 - English singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and actor David Bowie died two days after releasing the album Blackstar on his 69th birthday (1969 'Space Oddity').
