In 1960 athlete Linford Christie is born. He is the only British sprinter to have won gold medals at the Olympic Games, the World Championships, the European Championships and the Commonwealth Games.
In 1972 actor Charlie Chaplin returns to the United States for the first time in 20 years. He earlier cut ties with the United States after being labelled as a Communist by the FBI.
In 2005 Pole Karol Jozef Wojtyla, better known as Pope John Paul II, dies.

Leta 1725 se je rodil Giacomo Casanova, italijanski avanturist in pisatelj, eden najbolj izobraženih ljudi svojega časa. V avtobiografiji Beg iz Beneške ječe piše, da je preživel noč s 122 ženskami.
Leta 1792 je dolar postal denarno sredstvo v ZDA.
