In 1863, the Red Cross is founded. In Geneva, representatives from sixteen countries met and on the initiative of the Swiss gentleman Jean-Henri Dunant this charity organization was founded. The idea came to him after witnessing a battle in Italy where he saw wounded soldiers who did not receive any help and care. The symbol of the organisation became a red cross on a white background. The Red Cross operates in 160 countries. It has been in operation in Slovenia since 1944.

In 1947, Hillary Clinton is born.

In 1952, Hattie McDaniel dies. She was the first black recipient of an Oscar. She received her award for her role in the film Gone with the Wind.

In 1958, the company Pan American Airways made the first commercial flight of the Boeing 707. The plane flew between New York and Paris.

In 2000, in the USA Playstation 2 appears on shop shelves.

In 2002, in a Moscow theatre 50 Chechen rebels and about 150 hostages were killed, when Russian commandos stormed the theatre after the rebels took over 800 people hostage two and a half days earlier.

MUSIC HISTORY

1974 - Barry White with his album 'Can't Get Enough' takes the No. 1 spot on the American charts; on the album is the song 'You're the First, the Last, My Everything'.

1985 - Whitney Houston is at the top of the American charts with the song 'Saving All My Love For You'.

1991 - the duo Erasure is No. 1 on the British albums chart with 'Chorus', on which are also the singles 'Love To Hate You' and the title song 'Chorus'.

Leta 1863 so ustanovili Rdeči križ. V Ženevi so se srečali predstavniki šestnajstih držav in na pobudo Švicarja Jeana Henrija Dunanta ustanovili to človekoljubno organizacijo. Zamisel se mu je porodila, ko je med bitko v Italiji videl ranjene vojake, ki niso imeli nobene pomoči in nege. Simbol organizacije je postal rdeč križ na belem ozadju. Rdeči križ deluje v 160 državah, v Sloveniji od leta 1944.

Leta 1890 je umrl italijanski pisatelj Carlo Collodi, znan po zgodbi o Ostržku.

Leta 1947 se je rodila Hillary Clinton.
