In 1809 the initiator of a new modern Paris Georges-Eugene Haussman is born. He organised waterworks, built the wide boulevards to improve the traffic flow. The main railway station was constructed outside of the old city core with easy access. He designed the vast squares, and the Boulevard Haussman is reminiscent of his achievements in the external appearance of Paris.
In 1941 the English writer Virginia Woolf commits suicide. Her best known works are The Lighthouse and Orlando.
In 1962 the Slovenian former alpine skier Jure Franko is born. He is best known for winning a giant slalom silver medal at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo.
In 1969 in Washington American general and 34th President of the United States of America Dwight ‘Ike’ Eisenhower dies.
In 2004 the English actor Sir Peter Alexander Ustinov dies.
In 2013 the Slovenian alpine skier Boris Strel dies. He won the first Slovenian medal ever by participating at the 1982 Alpine Skiing World Cup.
