In 1776 in the United States the Declaration of Independence is signed and passed. It was drawn up by Thomas Jefferson. America thus broke away from Great Britain and 4 July is Independence Day.
In 1802 the military academy at West Point is opened.
In 1810 the governor of the Illyrian Provinces Auguste Marmont introduces Slovenian classes in schools.
In 1848 the first Slovenian political newspaper Slovenia is issued.
In 1934 in France the French physicist and chemist Marie Sklodowska Curie dies.
In 1991 with EU mediation a ceasefire is brokered in the war for Slovenia.

Leta 1546 je umrl tržaški škof Peter Bonomo, ki je pod vplivom Erazma Roterdamskega postal privrženec reformatorskega gibanja. Vplival je na Primoža Trubarja, nekateri viri pravijo, da mu je prav on dal prve pobude za pisanje v slovenščini.
Leta 1776 je bila v Združenih državah Amerike podpisana in sprejeta Izjava o neodvisnosti, ki jo je sestavil Thomas Jefferson. Amerika se je tako odcepila od Velike Britanije in 4. julij je Dan neodvisnosti (Independence day).
Leta 1802 so odprli vojaško akademijo v West Pointu.
