He was famous as one half of Laurel and Hardy, the classic double act that began in the era of silent films. In 1893, in Venice for the first time an international exhibition of modern art opens. The famous Venice Biennale today continues the tradition and every two years presents developments in contemporary art. In 1895, after the parts of the famous tower Aljaž Tower were carried to the top of Mount Triglav, tinsmith Anton Belec and hisfour assistants erected it in five hours. 1976 - Elton John and Kiki Dee were at the top of the American singles chart with 'Don't Go Breaking My Heart'.

1982 - Fleetwood Mac is top of the American albums charts with 'Mirage' for five weeks.

2005 - James Blunt is at No. 1 on the UK singles chart with ‘You're Beautiful’.

Leta 1848 je umrl švedski kemik Jons Jacob Berzellius. Uvedel je kemijske simbole, odkril selen in litij, ter določil atomske mase številnim elementom.
Leta 1867 se je rodila ena najslavnejših vohunk vseh časov Mata Hari. Leta 1917 so jo odkrili Francozi in jo ustrelili. Med vojno je ljubimkala s pomembnimi vojaškimi osebnostmi obeh strani in skrivnosti, ki jo ji jih zaupali eni, prodajala drugim.

Leta 1892 se je v Harlemu rodil Oliver Hardy, ki je skupaj s Stanom Laurelom v več kot 200 filmih bil del para 'Stan in Olio'.

Leta 1895 so dele Aljaževega stolpa znosili na vrh Triglava in ga postavili v petih urah. Stolp je bil visok 1,90 metra, imel je štiri okenca, v njem so bili 3 stolčki, vpisna knjiga, kuhalnik in Triglavska panorama. Stolp je bil opremljen tudi s telegrafom za komunikacijo s Kredarico in Dovjem.
Leta 1941 je umrl indijski pesnik mislec Rabindranath Tagore.
Leta 1975 se je rodila igralka Charlize Theron.
