Tadej Pogačar was 3rd on today's stage of the Tour de France, a 40.7 km individual time trial, to copperfasten his 2nd place finish in the overall standings.

The world no. 1, and 2-time defending champion, was only bettered today by his main rival, Jonas Vingegaard, who was 2nd today behind his own teammate Wout van Aert.

Van Aert was also awarded the combativity prize for the most aggressive rider on the 3-week tour, having won three stages.

Vingegaard was also confirmed as the overall winner of this year's race, as had been expected.

He is the first Dane to win the Tour de France since Bjarne Riis in 1996.

This year's tour also began in Copenhagen, where it had been due to start last year before the pandemic caused the start to be moved to Brittany.

Along with 2nd place overall, Pogačar also claimed the white jersey for the best young rider.

Tomorrow's final stage into Paris is largely ceremonial, usually ending in a sprint finish on the Champs Elysees.
