A health official confirmed today that a variant first detected in Brazil had been detected in Slovenia.

It comes after cases of the UK, South Africa and Nigeria variants of coronavirus have been confirmed in the country.

Mateja Logar, the government's new chief Covid-19 adviser said that the new variant has been detected in the Maribor area, in three persons within a family for now.

According to Logar, a clear epidemiological connection still needs to be established, but she believes it was most likely contacts at a workplace involving travel between countries in the Balkans, Germany and Slovenia, the Slovenian Press Agency reports.
