Slovenia ranked 13th in the latest Global Sustainable Competitiveness Index out of a total of 180 countries.

The list is compiled by Solability, a sustainability think tank based in Switzerland and South Korea. Slovenia fared best in terms of governance efficiency, which measures the results of core state areas and investments - infrastructure, market, and employment structure, as well as the provision of a framework for sustainable and sustained wealth generation. In that field, Slovenia trailed only Ireland and the Czech Republic. The country fared the worst in natural capital, where it placed 94th. Natural capital includes the availability of resources and the level of the depletion of those resources.
