In 1909 Joan of Arc is beatified in Rome.
In 1941 Ivan Hribar, who was considered the father of modern Ljubljana, committed suicide as a protest against the Italian annexation of Ljubljana. While he was mayor he greatly contributed to the rebuilding and modernisation of Ljubljana.
In 1947 the American actor James Woods is born.
In 1954 the Egyptian officer and politician Gamal Abdel Naser becomes prime minister and military leader in Egypt.
In 1955 physicist Albert Einstein, who discovered the theory of relativity and is considered the pioneer of quantum mechanics, dies.
In 2004 Slovene Aljaž Pegan wins a gold medal at the European Gymnastics Championships in the Tivoli Hall in Ljubljana, making a comeback after 10 years.
