In 1520, the Portuguese sailor and explorer Ferdinand Magellan sails through a strait that cuts through the southern tip of South America connecting the Atlantic Ocean and Pacific Ocean.

In 1820, the German socialist theorist Friedrich Engels is born. He was the father of the Marxist theory, alongside Karl Marx. In 1848 together with Marx he co-authored The Communist Manifesto.

In 1919, in England Lady Astor is elected the first lady Member of Parliament.

In 1944, at the Tehran conference Churchill, Roosevelt and Stalin meet.

In 1950, the American actor Ed Harris is born.
