Maister was born 140 years ago today. The organization of cultural societies and the Maribor based society that goes by his name yesterday organized a mini symposium about Rudolf Maister and his civilian engagement in Glazerjeva Dvorana of the University library.

Since the fall of 2005, Rudolf Maister day has been celebrated as a state holiday in Slovenia. On 23d November we commemorate the day in 1918 then Maister disarmed the German security guard and joined a large Slovenian speaking area of Štajerska and Koroška to Slovenia.
