Anna Fenninger came in second trailing by 7 hundredths of a second. The defending champion from the Olympic Games in Vancouver, Viktoria Rebensburg, also made it to the podium. In her Olympic debut, another Slovenian Katarina Lavtar finished 20th, while Ilka Štuhec 31st. Maruša Ferk withdrew from the race.
The biggest in the biggest race
Maze hasn't been in the forefront this season in the giant slalom discipline. However she has shone once again on the big stage. In the first run Maze took full advantage of being the first to ski down the course, and set a time which was more than half a second faster than the time of Jessica Lindell Vikarby, who was then in second place. Within one second away from Maze were also Nadia Fanchini, Anna Fenninger and Mikaele Schiffrin.
The hundredths of a second played to Tina's advantage
Before her final run the Super-G Olympic champion Anna Fenninger took the lead. It was then clear that it would go down to every detail in otherwise foggy conditions, although the native of Črna na Koroškem had an 85 hundredths of second advantage over the Austrian. Maze preserved her minimal lead throughout the race and came out as the big winner. As a reminder, Tina missed out on a medal in the Super-combined and Super-G by a tenth of second.
Tina's fourth, Slovenia's sixth in Sochi
This is Tina's second medal in Sochi after also winning the downhill event. Together with her two silver medals from Vancouver she now has a total of four Olympic medals. Slovenia on the other hand has six medals in Sochi so far, two golds, a silver, and three bronze medals. In the medal ranking for countries Slovenia has now climbed to 14th place.
