Speaking to RTV Slovenia she made it clear that she did not nominate herself for the post, but that it was her party that nominated her.

Bratušek says there was no conflict of interest and that the post of EU Commissioner was a political one. The names of three candidates were sent to Brussels. On that list are also the president of the DeSUS Pensioner's Party Karl Erjavec, and MEP Tanja Fajon from the ranks of the Social Democrats SD Party. Bratušek added that the final decision on Slovenia's EU Commissioner will still be made by the European parliament.

The Corruption Prevention Commission recently launched an investigation into the procedure for naming Slovenia's candidates for European Commissioner.
