Now they both wish to share their knowledge with others. When they came to Slovenia, they met many new people, among them a teacher at the primary school in Dragatuš. "She asked us to come to her school, have conversation in English with the schoolchildren and tell them stories about English tea and Napoleon." This is how they have established contact with several schools in Bela krajina, including primary schools for children with special educational needs. They familiarise children with British culture and teach them English. Moreover, they also cooked with them. "We prepared Christmas pudding," Mrs Gill Wraight says proudly. She and her husband Dennis are also involved in preparing promotional brochures on Bela krajina. In addition to this, they also took part in filming a documentary at the invitation of the Slovenian Institute for Adult Education.

"We have a very busy life and many friends. We were also introduced to the British ambassador, which certainly wouldn’t happen in Britain. In Bela krajina, we’ve always felt welcome. We’ve been warmly accepted by everyone, regardless of their age. We can feel intergenerational cooperation and we’ve never felt like strangers," says Gill, who also sings in a pensioners choir. "And we sing Slovene songs," she adds, with a smile.

Sport also brings people together
Both Gill and Dennis are full of enthusiasm for sport. "We regularly run 5 to 14 km," Dennis says proudly. Going on running, they have found several new friends and visited many places across Slovenia. "In 2011, we represented Slovenia at the Balkan Games of Veterans in Domžale and won four medals. We were both very proud to have competed for Slovenia," adds Dennis. He helps several local people do training, which is also a form of intergenerational cooperation.

Gill and Dennis revealed their story on Monday at the Days of Intergenerational Learning, which took place this week (25–29 November) in 28 centres of intergenerational learning.
