The votes of at least 15 members of the 29 member council were necessary to appoint the new general director.

Pirc Musar, Information Commissioner, whose term ends later this year, will take over from incumbent Marko Filli on 26 May.

Alongside Filli, who was running for another term, Pirc Musar was joined by four other candidates.

Interested in the job were also former FM Dimitrij Rupel, who later withdrew from candidacy, Ljerka Bizilj, editor of TV Slovenija's channel 3, Roman Kolar and Marko Makarovič, a former employee of RTV Slovenija.

Incumbent Filli's four-year term runs out on 25 May.
