We wish for the repetition of the last year, when Peter Prevc won the last match of the world cup season in Planica (although not on the giant hill) and got ahead of Severin Freund. Prevc then took the second place, while this year the large crystal globe is at stake Foto: EPA

The Planica festival is at the door! This year the Slovenian ski flying fans are even more impatient than usually, as last year the finals of the world cup were not organized at Planica giant hill. This year the ski flying hill of the Gorišek brothers will welcome the best ski flyers of the world with a new image.

Janez Gorišek (the Gorišek brothers designed the flying hill in the end of the 60s, and Janez and his son took care of its renovation) symbolically looked into the abyss with skies on his feet, while the legendary Planica worker Peter Stefančič waved the start flag for the first time at the new ski flying hill.
The head of the competition Jelko Gros said: "There was a constant internal conflict between aesthetic beauty and functionality. Our aim was maximal functionality, and the beauty was not at the top of our list. Often we had to retreat for a step or two in order to create this result."
One of the loudest questions now is – could we witness an even longer flight than Anders Fannemel’s in Vikersund?
