The central mass in Slovenia has been held at St. Nicholas's Cathedral in Ljubljana.

The mass is traditionally followed by a family breakfast, including Easter eggs, ham, horse radish and the Slovene potica.

At the Vatican, the leader of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis, delivered his Urbi at Orbi blessing and message. This year Easter is celebrated at the same time by Catholics and Orthodox Christians.

This year believers celebrate together
The head of the Serbian Orthodox Church Peran Bošković said that the greatest Christian feast also marks a new beginning every year, leaving the heavier fasting, gloomy, winter period behind and seeing a more bright and happy springtime ahead. It is a true turning point he added.
